Traditional Construction

Harry Barnes Homes is well versed in completing projects which require the use of traditional building methods, such as brick and block construction.

Architects frequently opt to use traditional methods when a particular style of building is required either by the client or to fulfil planning constraints. In such cases, we are able to source building materials locally to match with the vernacular and also to recycle materials saved from a demolition or purchased from reclamation yards nearby. We also have established contacts in all the traditional trades and are able to bring in specialists in their field if they are needed.

We can combine traditional building methods with Timber Frame technology and, of course, a newly built traditionally styled building can still benefit from advances in technology which include fully integrated wiring and plumbing, under floor heating, high specification insulation, triple-glazed windows and doors and a host of other environmentally friendly energy-saving initiatives.

Why choose Traditional building methods?

  • Answers planning constraints in conservation areas
  • Blends in with the vernacular
  • Support for established specialist craftsmen and trades
  • Recycling materials
